Steven:
1. A book that left a lasting impression is Moon and Sixpence by Somerset Maugham because this book argues the conflicts between materialism world and spiritual world. The protagonist is a British Stockbroker named Charles Strickland who has married for seventeen years and makes an impulse decision to go to Paris to be an artist. Throughout the book, the protagonist was struggling to escape from bondage of “sixpence”. Even though he is strong enough to ignore the fame and wealth, he was not able to reject his human instincts. This book made me ponder for a question: did I ignore the moon above me while I was looking for sixpences on the ground? Although I, as a student, do not have real concern toward material aspect of life, my pursuition and efforts are still focused on material gain. I was doing activities I don’t like at solely because it makes my resume looks better.
This book made my to introspect: did I lost my moon?
2. I am Steven Wu, as I like to be called. My name is also Mian Wu, written as 伍冕 in Chinese. I am a student in Webb from Ningbo, and this is my third year in the Webb School. Through my years in this school, I found that the library is my favorite place in the school. When I have free time, I love reading, crafting, gaming, and photography. I am the photographer for the school since I got here. I am going to continue my journey of photography in future. For now, my goal is to complete the college application. To this end, my current object is that I need to get a high enough score for SAT which I am going to take in the end of this month. Along with achieving a satistable score for SAT, I want to avoid the senior slide as much as possible.
I have heard of that book, but I have not read it! From your synopsis, now, I really want to. Thanks! I've added it to my list! I am glad to have you in class again. I admire your many interests and that you strive to do your best in all things you do!
